Indie bedroom-pop band Wallows brought their ‘Model’ Tour to Phoenix, Arizona with alternative singer-songwriter BENEE.

BENEE

BENEE, a singer-songwriter based in New Zealand opened for Wallows at Arizona Financial Theater on August 12, 2024. Her catchy pop tunes and exciting personality on stage had fans dancing and singing along. Her set was 30 minutes of catchy pop tunes and relatable lyrics, paired with fun dance moments between songs and a commanding stage presence.

The set started with “Kool” from her 2020 album “Hey u x”, about someone she wishes she could be like because they’re so “Kool”. The rest of the set included her other hits such as “Soaked”, “Glitter”, and “Wishful Thinking” which had the crowd grooving to the music, but things really picked up when she wrapped up her set with 2019 hit “Supalonely. The song went ultra-viral on TikTok and is currently sitting at over 745 million streams on Spotify. The song was an incredible way to wrap up her set and get the crowd amped for what was to come

Before the band went on, a curtain dropped from the rafters, and the bands name was illuminated on it for the duration of the stage set up. As the lights dimmed, the logo went away and the band was back-lit through the curtain, sending the crowd into excited screams and cheers. The band began to play “Do Not Wait” from their 2019 album, “Nothing Happens”. As the song plays, starting perfectly with simple synth and vocals, the band stands in one place, waiting for the moment about halfway through the song where drums and guitar come in and the curtain falls. Unfortunately right at this moment, a guitar stops working but the band handled the situation with ease. Once back up and running, the set continues into “Your Apartment” from their brand new album “Model”.

The entire set was an exciting mix of songs from across their career and the crowd was excited for every one. The band, consisting of singers and guitarists, Dylan Minnette and Braeden Lemasters, and drummer Cole Preston, are clearly comfortable on the stage, moving back and forth and interacting with fans as they perform. The show was full of energy and fun and this is a band you should not miss if they’re performing in a city near you!
