Cage the Elephant, the GRAMMY® Award-winning, multi-platinum and gold-selling rock legends, have embarked on their highly anticipated North American tour. The tour, entitled “The Neon Pill Tour”, is in celebration of their 6th studio album titled, you guessed it, Neon Pill.
If, by some chance, you’ve never heard of Cage the Elephant, there’s never a better time to listen than now. Their latest album is a masterpiece, regarded by the Associated Press as “a kaleidoscope of rock.” Paste Magazine said the album is the band’s “most polished work to date—an emblem of the delicate care for their craft, healing and the community all funneled into its making.”
The success of this album did not come easy for the band. According to a press release, lead vocalist Matthew Shultz and guitarist Brad Shultz tragically lost their father nine months into the pandemic a few years ago. Dealing with that loss, as well as the loss of friends, sent Matthew into a deep depression, resulting in him being hospitalized. With that experience and a deep resilience, “he learned quite a bit about himself, and gained a whole lot of strength and wisdom.” Neon Pill is a triumph, one that deserves to be celebrated.
Since 2006, Cage the Elephant has redefined the rock genre, constantly raising the bar for themselves. Every album, since their 2008 self-titled studio album, has released a new era for the band. Whether you prefer a more classic rock sound, or a more indie leaning kick, the discography of this band is sure to satisfy any musical craving you have. This album especially, given the fact that it is the first time the band made music that is totally and completely them.
“To me, Neon Pill is the first record where we were consistently uninfluenced, and I mean that in a positive way,” Matthew said about the album. “Everything is undoubtedly expressed through having settled into finding our own voice. . . We weren’t reaching for much outside of the pure experience of self-expression, and simultaneously not necessarily settling either. We just found a uniqueness in simply existing.”

Tour for Neon Pill kicked off on Thursday, June 20th. Along the 48-stop journey, the band will be stopping in Phoenix on July 5th. The show is at Talking Stick Ampitheatre and begins at 6:30 PM.
