Timeless, charming, brilliant – these are only a few of the words one could use to describe singer-songwriter Stephen Sanchez. Somewhere in 2020, Sanchez released ‘Lady By The Sea’, gliding into the music industry with his smooth vocals and enchanting song writing.

Now, four years later, Sanchez is hitting the road to tour his debut album Angel Face (and Angel Face (Club Deluxe)). The album is a masterpiece, eloquently following a recent trend of artists creating personas and stories in their music (i.e. Ethel Cain & Chappell Roan).

‘The Troubadour Sanchez’, the fictional persona created in Sanchez’s album, finds fame with his hit 1958 release “Until I Found You”. However, after he meets the love of his life “Evangeline” in 1964, his world begins to fall apart.

“I love 50’s and 60’s music,” Sanchez admitted with a smile when asked about the inspiration behind the character in a press conference held by 1824. Artists like Marty Robins and Roy Orbison had a big impact on his approach to music and this album in particular.

“Storytelling is so important to me,” he told us. “I find it to be really exciting to write from real stories that have happened in my life, and real feelings and then to, kind of, hide behind a character, a little bit so it feels like it lessens the blow of vulnerability for me,” he says with a smile. “And then it also makes it really exciting.”

“The characters totally have their own feelings and their own mindset, for sure,” he explained, but he adds a clarification: “I think that they are just my feelings, at the end of the day, too.”

On stage, he embodies the character and creates a new world and gives new life to the album, which is something he takes pride in creating. “Yes, we’re seeing Stephen Sanchez – this artist – but on stage we’re seeing that character played and that feels a bit more unique and a bit more special,” he remarked. “It’s super important to me that that’s the thing that carries the music.”

‘The Moon Crests’ tour is currently underway and tickets are still available for you to see Stephen Sanchez as ‘Troubadour Sanchez’ live in concert! Grab tickets here.
